Job Description for Technical Program Manager [DevOps Platform and Middleware]

We’re seeking a highly motivated technical program manager for our new cloud-native DevOps platform and middleware to extend our global reach through expert discovery and exploration of new and untapped business opportunities and relationships. To succeed as a technical program manager, you will need to execute roadmap deliverables (“stories”) and oversee a team of Product Owners who will work directly with engineers to manage milestones against KPIs. You will be responsible for managing the agile release train and ensuring the engineering teams are delivering stories consistent with the roadmap defined by the product managers. You will play a pivotal role in the delivery of our cloud-native DevOps platform and middleware and will play a key role for Aptiv SW product strategy, adopting a strategic approach to break down barriers and enhance our customer relationships towards a software defined vehicle.

Objectives of this Role

• Own and ensure high-quality, at-cost, and on-time delivery of the product

• Own technical product roadmap that defines the “how” to deliver to the product roadmap (e.g., convert use cases into epics, stories, tasks, determine required time for delivery, etc.)

• Collaborate with Product Managers to refine product roadmap considering technical feasibility

• Support engineering resource stagging onto product teams

Your Role:

• Own execution planning of product roadmap, resourcing, & delivery

• Distill objectives into tactical plans by converting use cases into epics, stories, & tasks for engineering team to execute against

• Plan and coordinate activities and resources to successfully realize targets; resolve or escalate issues and risks

• Develop acceptance criteria for features and ensure product quality meets the criteria

• Track performance against KPIs and iterate to meet KPIs

• Estimate resourcing requirements for each use case and identify team priorities

• Prioritize deliverables and backlog based on product strategy and feasibility

• Promote agile software development and ensure each scrum team follows best practices

• Map out product dependencies and the most efficient sequencing of product development

• Drive product design and development sprints in an agile approach

• Create a framework for streamlined productivity; apply design-based approach to benchmarking, evaluating, and piloting new tools/technologies/methods of communication, documentation, and creating situational awareness

Must have’s

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related field

• 5+ years of experience in technical program or project management, ideally with multiple delivered software projects in comparable applications

• Experience with: software development and project management methodologies, including waterfall, agile, scrum, extreme programming, Kanban, and SAFe, as well as tools, requirements management and defect tracking systems; and defining, executing and delivering all phases of a project’s life cycle according to business needs and standard software development lifecycle principles

• Extensive experience developing processes and methodologies to suit specific engineering workflows desired

• Familiar with Cloud-native technology (microservices, Kubernetes, APIs, etc.) and DevOps, CI/CD

• Familiar with over-the-update and basic security knowledge, such as encryption and signatures

• Familiar with communication protocols (e.g. DDS, SOME/IP) and vehicle networking (e.g. CAN, LIN, FlexRay, and Ethernet)

• Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management

• All-hands-on-deck approach with a strategic vision

• Excellent communication / presentation skills

• High degree of commitment, proactiveness, and flexibility

Nice to have’s

• Domain expertise in automotive

• Automotive software development (v-cycle, ASPICE, etc.) and various testing methods (MIL, SIL, PIL, HIL, DIL, fault injection, etc.)
